Re: mildmay tavern angel scooter club
I bumped into Jeff in Shoreditch a couple of months ago and he seemed well. As far as the Beatroute goes there were only ever 20 odd people there on the Tuesday nights. The dancefloor was always pretty empty.... unless my memory's playing tricks on me. In fact there was a small club opposite that we used to go to - can you remember what it was called? I can only remember the French/Algerian barmaid Genie - and the fact that the music was pretty good. If Jeff's online and can find this site he'll remember what it was called.

The bouncer on the door was Larry. He confiscated a tin of blues off some 14 yr old one Saturday
Wasn't Gossips opposite was it.
The drinks in Le Beat Route were 50pence specials weren't they - watered down vodka!
They used to run a video of The Kids Are Alright on repeat each night.

It was £3 to get in (I think) and we used to get on well with the bouncer there. Didn't he do some film work afterwards?
I never went there on a Saturday and don't remember the video playing at all! But then again, I don't remember too much from those days... Gossips was round the corner. The place I'm talking about was almost opposite - in a small doorway, downstairs typical soho dive bar. Both bars were good for Northern and Rare Soul.

Re: mildmay tavern angel scooter club
Just got on this site, fantastic to see some of the old boys from the mildmay tavern.I used to prop up the bar there most nights .I remember bsaun used to be on the door and jan was always busting out of her blowse.Big George and ken Mia,he was a good mate of mine ,haven't seen him for years,The narrowboat was the other boozer we used to go to.I think those photos outside the pub were taken by a french fella...I managed to get one of a few of us on scooters in Ridley road.Good days...cheap booze and lots of laughs.Mick formerly of The Variations and 007.
