New Hearts - A Secret Affair
Release date 19 October
New Hearts on MySpace
Who were they?
New Hearts were a power pop/new wave act who evolved into hit Mod Revival band Secret Affair.
What did they do?
New Hearts issued just two singles for CBS in 1977/78 but recorded a whole unissued album’s worth of material. They were a popular live act, supporting the likes of The Jam during their two-year existence.
What’s on the CD?
Those two singles plus 19 other recordings from the period, most of them hitherto unheard, plus three pre-CBS demos from ‘76.
Anything on there we’d know?
Several songs were later reworked by Secret Affair, including “Only Madmen Laugh” and “I’m Not Free”.
Why the interest?
Secret Affair were figureheads of the Mod Revival scene of 1979/80, which still enjoys a huge cult following worldwide.
Why now?
Secret Affair are still active, playing shows around the UK and abroad.
